The physical quantities like length, mass, time etc. can be measured in units metre, kilogram, seconds but there are certain physical quantities, generally the ratios, which are unit less. For example ;

1)Mach number (or mach) which is Ratio of flow velocity to the local speed of sound and is unitless.

2) Strain which is ratio of change in length (or volume) to original length ( or volume )is a unit less quantity .

3) refractive index which is ratio of velocity of light in vaccum to velocity of light in medium.

4) Relative density which is density of substance to density of water.
