The five barriers of active listening are:
1. One's physical state: Some of the physical issues that might affect listening are hunger, depression, physical pain, etc.
2. External distractions: This includes our emotions, any devices or gadgets and any visual distraction.
3. Noisy environments: This makes it all the more difficult to pay attention and can lead to miscommunications.
4. Our personal mind set: This includes boredom, jealousy, prejudice and being biased.
5. Interruption: The speaker should be allowed to speak freely and attention is to be paid. Interrupting causes disturbances and effects active listening.
