Social diversity varies from society to society. In some societies we may find linguistic and cultural differences whereas in some societies religious and racial diversities prevail. For example, India is a land of diversities in all aspects .In Belgium,people living in different regions speak different languages but in Sri lanka both linguistic and religious differences exist. Hence, social diversities are not similar but takes different forms in different societies.
Following are the different forms of social diversity :
1. Social diversity based on birth : The society is divided into various castes like Brahmans, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shudras etc on the basis of their birth.
2. Based on color : The society is also divided into blacks and whites or brown (non-white) and white. The apartheid system in South Africa was based on color.
3. Religion : The society is also divided into various religious groups like Islam, Christianity, Hinduism etc. E.g India is a country of all major religions of the world.
4. Ethnicity : The society is also divided into various unique races, social and cultural groups e.g Bengalis, Marathis, Rajputs, etc.
5. Language : Societies are also divided on the basis of their language. e.g Hindi speaking and Non-Hindi speaking in India.
