Answer:

Konkan forms a part of India's western coastline that extends from Maharashtra, Goa, and ends at Karnataka. In this region the weathering is common.

Some of the common types of weathering process that place in the coastal areas are as follows-

(1) Freeze and thaw method- It is one of the commonly occurring physical weathering processes, where the water plays a dominant role. Here, the water in the day time gets accumulated in the pore spaces of the rocks and at ni8ght this water expands as it increases its volume. As a result of which the rocks disintegrate.

(2) Exfoliation- It is also a type of physical weathering process. In the day time, due to the increasing temperature, the rock undergoes swelling and at night time, they cool down. This process occurs repeatedly and over a definite period of time the top layer of the rock breaks.

(3) Biological weathering- The behavior of plants and animals are also responsible for the weathering process to take place. The plants grow through the cracks and fractures of the rocks, as a result of which the rocks disintegrate.

(4) Hydrolysis and Oxidation- These are chemical weathering process that frequently takes place in the coastal areas.

The hydrolysis process takes place in a variety of rocks containing different types of minerals that reacts with water or with the chemicals that are present in water. As a result of which the minerals break down.

Oxidation process takes place over the cliff faces and along the coastal rocks where the rocks that are rich in iron elements are found to be present. As a result of which rusting takes place and eventually the rocks break down.
