Explain with reason that it ice melts at polar region then moment of inertia of earth increases, Angur velocity

If Ice in the polar region melts,

Then-:

Resulting water will flow towards the equator and Consequently moment of cause more mass has accumulated at equator which is at more distant from the rotational axis as compared to the poles.

That's Why-:

From law of Conservation of Angular Mass ( COAM )

If I increases then ω decreases.

Time period (T) = 2π / ω => T increases

Therefore-:

Due to increase in time period, the duration of day and night will increase.

When ice of polar caps of earth melts, mass concentrated near the axis of rotation spreads out. Therefore, the moment of inertia I increases. With increase of I,T will increase i.e length of the day will increase.
