Explain with reason the variation of valency on going down in a group..

Generally we know, if we are going down the group , valency doesn't effect but in case of P-block or d-block , valency varies .
reason:- inert pair effect is the most powerful reason for this , this is due to poor shielding effect of d and f-electrons that restrict ns electrons to take part in bond formation
