This chapter is written by khushwant singh named 'The Portrait of a lady .'In this chapter he describes about his grandmother. his grandmother is very old and looked unattractive but she possessed divine qualities. she always lost herself busy. while author's childhood she performed her responsibility. she cared writer too much. when writer went to foreign to further study , the link of attachment with his grandmother broken. After coming back she arranged the music with drums and collected the woman from neighborhood. But next morning her fever stayed high and the doctor couldn't safe her. she was kind towards the birds too.when she was being carried to funeral all the sparrows were silent and flew away.
