The formula for the expansion of a coefficient of any liquid or a gas is as the following :

P V = μ R T

At a constant pressure of:  

PΔV =  μR  ΔT

ΔV/ V = ΔT/ T

That means, α v = 1/T  

This is for an ideal gas given. This can even be applied for any liquid also with a set of limitations applied.
