Answer:

IMPORTANCE:

Respiratory system is one of the main human systems which remain us alive. Respiratory system has its own importance when compared to all other systems. Respiration provides us energy by supplying oxygen.

WHAT WE BREATH:

Humans and animals breath air rich in O2 oxygen and gives out air rich in CO2 carbon dioxide.

LOCATION:

Respiratory system is located in the chest cavity of humans. It is located just beside the heart.

CHARACTERISTICS:

The right lung is slightly larger than the left one. The reason behind this is the left lung has to make a room for heart.

ORGANS PARTICIPATING IN RESPIRATION:

Nostrils: The holes through which we breath the air

Air pipe or trachea: The pipe that helps to transports the air from nostrils to lungs.

Bronchioles: The way through which the air enters the lungs.

Bronchi: The end of bronchioles that connect the lungs.

Alveoli: The small air sac which is present at the end of bronchi. It takes the oxygen present in the air, as a result we get carbon dioxide.

Diaphragm: The diaphragm is the primary muscle used in respiration, which is the process of breathing. This dome-shaped muscle is located just below the lungs and heart. It contracts continually as you breathe in and out.

RESPIRATORY SYSTEM OF OTHER ANIMALS

In other animals like fishes, there is no respiratory system, animals like fishes breath through gills.

In plants there are special structures called stomata, the tiny pores on the surface of leaves.
