The gases such as oxygen dissolves in water thats why the aquatic animals can survive, if the oxygen didn't disolve then the aquatic animals can't live. And if carbondioxide didn't disolve in water then the Aquatic plants can't live.

The aquatic plants and animal can survive due to the dissolved oxygen present in the water body. The water passes through the gills of the fishes and the stomata and they use the dissolved oxygen for their body. The fishes and other aquatic animals respire through gills while some does so with their skins like Frogs. Aquatic plants respire through minute pores on their epidermal layers.
