» The East India company was granted the right to trade in India by an act of the British Parliament is known as the East India Company Act or the Charter act British Parliament exercised control over the East India Company through this act. After every 20 years, a new Charter Act was issued to the company by the British government in the Charter which is known as the Charter act of 1813. A sum of rupees one lakhs where sanctions for the development of education in India. The Charter act of 1833 increased the sum to 10 lakh rupees. In 1853, the company Charter was reviewed in the British Parliament. It was then felt that there had to be a permanent and comprehensive education policy for India. So a committee was set up by the British Parliament to decide the policy for Indian education. The committee truly started the contemporary Indian education system on the role that the company played. The president of the Company's Board of Control was Sir Charles Wood. He declared this education policy on 19 July 1853. It therefore is known as "Woods Dispatch."
