A place where two or more bones meet is called a joint. Joints are held together by strong tissues called ligaments. The ligaments reach from one bone to another and hold them together. Another strong tissue called cartilage covers the bones at the joints to avoid friction between them. Though cartilage is a strong tissue but it is flexible The joints are of two types, movable joints and immovable joints. All the joint except the joints in the upper part of the skull which protect the brain are movable joints. The bones in the skull are interlocked making the joints immovable.
