Reaction of Carbon with Oxygen:-

Carbon react with Oxygen to form Carbon dioxide.

Reaction:-

C+O_{2} ----->CO_{2}

Type of reaction:-

This is a combination reaction because here Carbon is being combined with the Oxygen to form Carbon dioxide.

Nature of Compound:-

The compound formed is acidic in nature because the non-metals always form acidic oxide.

Procedure to identify it:-

1) Treat  the compound formed with water. You will see that a solution is formed.

2)You can test the solution using a litmus paper whish must be blue in color. When you dip the blue litmus in the solution you will see that the color of the litmus paper has changed to red which indicates that the compound formed is acidic in natur

Hope it helped........

Provided Question

Explain the reaction of Carbon with oxygen. What is the nature of compounds formed? How will you identify it?

Required Answer

Here, we are given the elements and we have to explain their reaction and find the nature of the compound.

 \boxed {\huge \sf \pink { Concept: } }

So, first of all let's identify the elements, we know that:–

  • CARBON →  \boxed { \bf \red { Non-metal } }

This means, a non-metal is reacting with the oxygen. So, we also know that:

  • Non-metals react with oxygen to form non-metallic oxides.

  • Non-metallic oxides are acidic in nature.

  • They form acids on dissolving in water.

Now, we got the important point, so let's start!!

____________

 \boxed {\huge \sf \pink { Solution : } }

→ When the carbon(C) will react with oxygen \sf { (O_2)} , carbon dioxide \sf \red{ (CO_2)} will be the product.

REACTANTS:

  • Carbon  \longrightarrow C

  • Oxygen  \longrightarrow  \rm { O_2}

PRODUCT:

  • Carbon dioxide  \longrightarrow  \rm { CO_2}

CHEMICAL EQUATION:

 \rm { Carbon + Oxygen \longrightarrow Carbon \: Dioxide }

 \rm { C + O_2 \longrightarrow CO_2}

NATURE OF THE COMPOUND:

Since carbon (C) which is a non-metal reacting with oxygen \sf { (O_2)} , so it will be acidic in nature.

This is because non-metals react with oxygen to form non-metallic oxides that are acidic in nature.

 \bf \red { So, we \: are \: done!! }
