carbon forms single, double and triple bonds.
some examples are shown for you in the picture
the reason why carbon forms covalent bond is because of it's valency.
it has only 4 in it's valence shell.therefore it forms covalent bond with other carbon or carbon coumpounds

since they are tetravalent they form single bonds such as alkanes, double bonds such as alkenes, and triple bonds such as alkynes.

alkanes (eg)
methane
ethane
propane
butane
pentane
hexane
etc

Alkene (eg)

ethene
Propene
butene
etc

alkyne (eg)
ethyne
propyne
butyne
