The heart is a muscular organ in most animals, which pumps blood through the blood vessels of the circulatory system. Blood provides the body with oxygen and nutrients, as well as assisting in the removal of metabolic wastes. In humans, the heart is located between the lungs, in the middle compartment of the chest.

Oxygen-poor blood is collected from body parts through superior and inferior vena cava into the right atrium of the heart, which is then pumped to lungs through the pulmonary artery.

Then the oxygen-rich blood from the lungs is transferred to the left atrium through the pulmonary vein, which is then pumped to all other body parts through the aorta.
