Each parent have alleles they have to transfer to the offspring in next generation. The gametes help them transfer it. When law of segregation comes to pay, it makes sure that each gamete during gamete formation only gets a single allele from both the parents. The segregation of parents allele and formation of gamete, what we call law of segregation. And the gametes formed are independent of each other. One gamete doesn't depend on other. The individuality of gamete, being independent, what we call the assorted or formed independently or Law of independent assortment.
