Heya,
The ship gets stuck near the poles where they seem to be surrounded by ice on all sides. They describe the ice to be glinting like green emerald. When all hope is lost, a big bird called albatros flies down and breaks the ice. The helmsman steers the ship through the cracks in the ice. They make it out of that region and they consider the albatros as the soul of a christian. They consider it as a good omen. It used to come down to the ship whenever they called it to play or feed it. However, one fateful day, they seemed to be stuck in the sea with no wind blowing and no land in sight. The mariner blames the albatros and using his crossbow, he shoots the albatros down. Because of this, the ship gets permanently stuck in the middle of nowhere. The other mariners blame their bad luck on the mariner and as a repentment for his sins, they hang the dead albatros over his neck.
