The characteristics of the poet, Edward Lear have been described in the poem "How Pleasant To Know Mr. Lear". Both the positive and negative aspects of his nature have been mentioned. He has contrasting characteristics. In the beginning of the poem he is described as  an ill-tempered and queer person. In the next line it is stated that he is pleasant. He has a concrete and fastidious mind but his nose is described as remarkably big.

The title of the poem is ironical. It says that it is pleasant to know Mr. Lear but the contrasting characteristics mentioned  in the course of the poem make us question whether it is really pleasant to know Mr. Lear. It becomes uncertain whether Mr. Lear should be considered to be pleasant or unpleasant.

In the poem How pleasant to know mr lear,mr lear is described as a an odd man and has contrasting characters .when the people talk about his bad experience he becomes ill tempered and queer. And as he feels bad he uses to weep by the ocean and on the top of the hill.
