Answer:

When you hear the word 'respire,' you probably think of breathing. When you breathe, you are taking in oxygen with each inhale and releasing carbon dioxide with each exhale. This gas exchange is important for respiration, but while breathing is a physical process, respiration can be thought of as more of a chemical process. All organisms, from a single bacterial cell to a coral reef colony to a blue whale, undergo respiration

Respiration :-

➡ Taking of oxygen and releasing of carbondioxide is known as respiration.

➡ The parts involved in the respiratory system are :- Nostrils,Nasal cavity, pharynx,Larynx,Trachea,Bronchus,Bronchioles,Alveoli .

Description and function of each part :-

1.Nostrils:-

➡ A pair of nostrils are present.

Function:-

➡ We take atmospheric oxygen through it.

2.Nasal cavity:-

➡ From the nostrils the air enters into nasal cavity.

➡ It contains two parts mucus and hair.

Function:-

➡ It adjusts the temperature of air to body temperature.

3.Pharynx:-

➡From the nasal cavity the air enters into pharynx.

➡ It is the common passage for both respiration and digestion.

➡ It ends with a flip like opening called Epiglottis.

Function:-

➡ If the epiglottis opens partially then the food enters into Oesophagus.

➡ If the epiglottis opens completely the air enters into Trachea.

4.Larynx:-

➡ From the pharynx the air enters into larynx.

➡ It is also known as voice box.

➡ It contains a pair of vocal cords.

Function:-

➡ When we inhale the air , the vocal cords get vibrated . As a result of this the voice is produced.

5.Trachea:-

➡ From larynx the air enters into Trachea.

➡ It contains 'c' shaped rings called cartilageous.

➡ It is also known as wind pipe.

Function:-

➡ The 'c' shaped rings protect the trachea from closing and collapsing.

6.Bronchus:-

➡ From the trachea the air enters into Bronchus.

➡ The trachea is divided into two branches known as Bronchus.

➡ Each Bronchus enters into each lung.

7.Bronchioles:-

➡ From the bronchus the air enters into Bronchioles.

➡ Each bronchus is divided into number of bronchioles.

8.Alveoli:-

➡ From the bronchioles the air enters into Alveoli.

➡ Each bronchioles ends with a bag like structure called alveoli.

Function:-

➡ Exchange of gases takes place.

➡ It is lined with a layer called interstitum.

How does the respiration takes place / structure of Alveoli:-

1. Each lung contains number of bag/small Chambers called Alveoli.

2. With in the alveoli the exchange of gases takes place.

3. The veins carry the carbondioxide from all the body parts and at the same time the atmospheric oxygen enters into alveoli.

4. Now the alveoli contains more amount of oxygen and less amount of carbondioxide while the pulmonary contains more amount of carbondioxide and less amount of oxygen.

5. As a result of diffusion the oxygen present in the alveoli enters into all the body parts at the same time the carbondioxide present in the pulmonary enters into alveoli.

6. From the alveoli the carbondioxide enters into the atmosphere. And oxygen is utilized by each and every cell.
