A Gorilla in the Guestroom is a humorous tale of what happened when the author Gerald Durrell had to house a gorilla called N’Pongo in his guest room for a few days during his tenure as a zookeeper. The author had to do this because the gorilla’s cage in the zoo was not yet ready by the time it arrived.
The sad expression and grave courteous manner of the gorilla helped it easily win the hearts of the author’s wife and mother. The family was only happy to accommodate N’Pongo in the guest room as they expected it to be quite a sober animal. However, by the time N’Pongo had to be taken to the cage, he had created enough ruckus and the room seemed as if it had been turned upside down.
