The organisms which cannot produce own their food and depend on other organisms for their food. This mode of nutrition is known as heterotrophic mode of nutrition.

Heterotrophs are classified into three categories on the basis of their mode of nutrition:-

• For example:- Leeches.
• 2.Saprophytes
• For example:- Mushrooms.
• 3.Holozoic
• For example:- Humans, dogs etc.
