• Prophase is the longest of the four phases, in terms of duration.

• In the Prophase stage, the cell becomes viscous and refractive for the 1st time.

• In the Prophase stage, the "Chromatin" of the nucleus get condensed to form "Chromosomes".

• The process of replication of Chromosomes takes place in the Prophase stage.

• During the Prophase stage, each chromosome contains 2 chromatids.

• The Nuclear membrane and "Nucleolus" disappear in the Prophase stage.

• The Centrioles play an important role during the Prophase stage of mitotic cell division.

• The Centrosome serves it's main function by initiating the process of mitotic cell division.
