explian the contruction of a simple barometer what are its advantages and disadvantages

The mercury barometer consists of a long glass tube containing mercury whose one side is sealed and the other is inverted on a cup also containing mercury.The mercury falls into the cup but after sometime it becomes constant.So it can determine atmospheric pressure.
