The catalysis is broadly classified between two groups
- Homogeneous catalysis :- it involves the use of such catalyst which are in the same phase as the reactants in the reaction medium. For example :- use of gaseous chlorine catalyst to break down gaseous ozone.
- Heterogeneous catalysis :- It involves the use of such catalyst which is in different phase from the reaction medium. For example :- use of metal catalysts like Ni, Cu etc in various liquid chemical reactions.
