✽ Question ✽

Exprees the following using integers :-

a. 15°C above zero

b. 20°C below zero

c. A profit of ₹ 500

d. A loss of ₹ 700

e. The height of a hill is 5000 m

f. The depth of a well is 50 m

✽ To find ✽

Express them using integer.

✽ Solution ✽

a. 15°C above zero

Since, the temperature is above 0℃, it can be expressed as positive integer.

So,

15℃ above zero = 15℃

b. 20°C below zero

Since, the temperature is below 0℃, it can be expressed as negative integer.

So,

20℃ below zero = -20℃

c. A profit of ₹ 500

Since, ₹ 500 is the profit and so is greater than 0, it can be expressed as positive integer.

So,

a profit of ₹ 500 = ₹ 500

d. A loss of ₹ 700

Since, ₹ 500 is the loss and so is less than 0, it can be expressed as negative integer.

So,

a loss of ₹ 700 = ₹ -700

e. The height of a hill is 5000 m

Since, 5000 m is the height of a hill, it is above sea level and can be expressed as positive integers.

So,

the height of a hill is 5000 m = 5000 m

f. The depth of a well is 50 m

Since, 5000 m is the depth of a well, it is below sea level and can be expressed as negative integers.

So,

the depth of a well is 50 m = -50 m

✽ Therefore ✽

The answer of:

a. is 15℃

b. is -20℃

c. is ₹ 500

d. is ₹ -700

e. is 5000 m

f. is -50 m

You can also put a '+' sign before positive integers.

Hope this helps you.
