Qualities to differentiate between metal and non metals are:--

1. Conductivity:- Metals are generally good conductors of electricity and heat due to presence of free electrons, while there is no free electrons in non metals hence non metals are poor conductors of heat and light.
2. Malleability:- Metals are malleable while non metals are non malleable in nature.
3. Ductility:- It is the process by which substances are drawn into sheets so metals are ductile in nature while non metals are non ductile in nature.
4. Bonding:- Metals are ionic in nature as they form ions due  to free electrons so they form ionic bonds whereas non metals form covalent bond due to absence of free electrons.
5. Metals are hard , shiny and lustrous in nature whereas non metals are brittle and are generally dull.
6. Metals are crystalline and non metals are amorphous in nature.
7. Metals are high density solids whereas non metals have low density.
8. Melting and boiling points of metals are very high while that for non metals they have low melting and boiling points.
