Dot product is also known as scalar product.
If two vectors A and B are given,
Then, scalar product of A and B = |A| |B|cosФ
where |A| is the magnitude of A
|B| is the magnitude of B
and Ф is the angle between A and B.

Now, if two vectors A = a₁i + a₂j + a₃k and B = b₁i + b₂j + b₃k are given
Then, scalar product of A and B = (a₁i + a₂j + a₃k).(b₁i + b₂j + b₃k)
= a₁b₁ + a₂b₂ + a₃b₃
