The number has to be between 0 and 10 so you can move the decimal over two places and add that to the three zeroes that make it 427,000 and you have 5 zeroes you need to put after the 10.

427000 If you move the decimal 6 places to the left then the notation will be 4.27×10^6 Just remember that decimal is moving right then it's doing wrong i.e. negative exponent and when decimal is moving left it's doing right i.e. positive exponent.
