x = (15+y)/4   [ in terms of y ]

(1, -2) can not be a solution to the given equation

Given:

The linear equation 4x - 5y = 15

To find:

Express x in terms of y

Check whether (1, -2) is a solution of the given equation

Solution:

Given linear equation 4x - 5y = 15

⇒ 4x = 15+y

⇒  x = (15+y)/4

Therefore, x = (15+y)/4   [ in terms of y ]

If (1, -2) is a solution of the given equation then x = 1 and y = -2 must be satisfy the given equation

To check it substitute x = 1 and y = -2 in given equation

⇒ 4(1) - 5(-2) = 15

⇒ 4 + 10 = 15

⇒ 14 \neq 15

Therefore, (1, -2) can not be a solution to the given equation
