Competition definitely leads to progress but only if it's a healthy competition otherwise it can lead to catastrophic consequences.

Having a healthy competitive mind is beneficial as it motivates a person constantly and he strives to do better than his peers. It can not only bring about the overall development of an individual but also helps in the progress of an economy.
