Answer:Let us consider a body of mass (m) lying on the surface at rest where height is zero but when we apply force to lift it in upward direction it displace to height (h) from it's position on the surface

Force F is required to lift the body in upward direction

Weight W = mass gravitational acceleration

W =mg------- (1)

Work= F×s(displacement)

Work=P.E=mg×h

: : P.E =mgh
