Answer:

The story 'Leela’s Friend' is written by R.K. Narayan.

It is a story about how the servant boy is accused of stealing the child’s gold chain by the child’s parents. They call the police and as the servant Sidda refuses to accept that he stole the chain, they take him to the police station.

Sidda, although he didn’t take the chain, knows that nobody including the police will believe that he didn’t steal the chain. This is mainly because of the divide in the social strata.

The poor and those on the lower strata of society are seldom believed when it comes to such things. Those in the upper echelons tend to be believed more than those who work as servants.

This social injustice is the theme that the author is exploring in this story. This injustice has to change and our society should be more inclusive.
