The waxy coating present the skin of animals is made up of keratin. Keratin is a protein which provides structural rigidity and strength to some animals.
This is majorly present in hair, hooves, scales, horns, feathers, beaks and the outermost skin of most of the animals.
This protein protects animals during winters by sliding water from their skin and keeps then warm. And gives a shine to skin.
