The statement mentioned in the question is completely justified because tigers are one of the main carnivorous species in the forest ecosystem.

If the numbers of tiger decreases,then the herbivorous species will increase at a higher rate which will also deplete the grass and plants of the forest (herbivores eat plant and grass).

That's why the decrease of tiger population will harm the allover ecosystem of the forest.
