Force:
=> Force is defined as a push or a pull acting on a body which tends to change its shape, state of rest or motion.. It acts only when 2 or more bodies interact with each other.
S.I unit = Newton(N)
C.G.S Unit = Dyne(D)
I N = 10 raised to 5 D.
Force is a vector Quantity.
Types of Forces:
1. Contact Forces. Muscular, Mechanical, Frictional.
2. Non Contact forces. Magnetic, Electrostatic, Gravitational.
Friction:
=> When a body slides / tends to move over the other body then a force is developed which opposes the relative motion between the 2 bodies.
Characteristics:
1. Self Adjustable
2. Depends on the nature of the surface of 2 bodies.
3. Always opposite to the relative motion.
4. Acts parrallel to the contact surface.
Laws of Friction:
Friction is directly proportionate to Newton ( weight )
F = Mew N
* IMP
A body remains in rest until static friction is greater than or equal to applied force. Static friction reduces just a bit when the body is set to be in motion and remains constant until the body remains in motion.
