There are three methods which are used to extract minerals.
- Mining
- Drilling
- Quarrying
Here mining also had two kinds.
- Shaft mining.
- Open cast mining.
1. Mining:-
- The process of taking out minerals from rocks buried under the earth's surface.
- For example:- Manganese, tantalum, copper, tin, nickel, bauxite (aluminum ore),iron are some minerals that are extracted by mining.
- Open cast mining- Minerals that lie at shallow depth are taken out by removing the surface layer.
- Shaft mining- Deep bored are to be made to reach mineral deposits that lie at great depth.
2. Drilling:-
- Some mineral occur far below the earth's surface. So deep wells are bored to take them out. This is called drilling.
- For example- Petroleum and Natural gas are some of the minerals which are extracted by quarrying.
3. Quarrying:-
- Minerals that lie near the surface are simply rugged by quarrying.
- For example- coal and lignite mining, oil and gas extraction are done by quarrying.
