There are three major divisions of the Himalayas and this runs from the North to the South. These are the Great or the Inner Himalayas also known as the Himadri which continue to be peaking at great heights.

Then there is the Lesser Himalayas or the range which is located from Southern region of the Himadri. The third is the outermost range also known as Shiwaliks. These foothill ranges are representing the southern division of the Himalayas. In between Aravali and Vindhyan ranges lie the Malwa plateau.
