The function of pupil is to controle the amount of light entering our eyes which means if the pupil is small then less light will enter in our eye and if the pupil is large then more light will enter our eye.

The nocturnal birds like owl Are mostly avtive at night and hunt mostly at night so for clear vision the need large pupil for letting more light to enter the birds eye which enables it to see clearly at night and large cornia protects the large pupil. Also it give them increased retinal surface and increased field of vision.
