Concept:

Linear Pair-When Two Straight lines intersect at a single point, then the sum of adjacent pair of angles in 180.

Corresponding Angles-If two parallel lines are intersected by a traversal, then the angles in the same co-relative positions are equal.

Given:

figure

Find:

y

Solution:

The corresponding angles are marked by purple in the figure. From that figure.

  • Angles (x+1)° and (x-3)° form a linear pair.
  • Angles (x-3)° and y also form a linear pair.

For the first pair:

(x+1)°+ (x-3)°=180°

2x=182°

x=91°

For the second pair:

(x-3)°+y=180°

x+y= 183°

y=183°-x

y=183°-91° = 92°

Hence, the value of y is 92°
