Answer:

Let before x years, father's age was six times son's age.

Before x years their age was,

Father’s age = 42-x

Son's age = 12-x

Now, according to question,

42-x = 6*(12-x)

42-x = 72–6x

-x +6x = 72–42

5x= 30

x=6

Hence before 6 years father's age was six times son's age

We can verify also

42–6 = 36. Father's age

12–6 = 6. son's age

6*6=36

Hence the answer is 6.

this is your answer

Answer:

18

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of years be x.

Therefore the age of son would be 12+x whereas the age of father would be 42+x.

And it is given that the age of father would be twice of the son(same as the age of the son be half of the age of the man), therefore,

2(12+x)=42+x

24+2x=42+x

2x−x=42−24

x=18

Hence, the number of years is 18.
