F SUBSTANCES IN ANIMALS
Unicellular organisms like Amoeba, Paramecium and bacteria
do not have a circulatory system. The particles move in and
out of the cell through the cell membranethat covers the
cell. Depending on the concentration of the substances,
the membrane selects whether to take in or to let out the
particles. The substances move from a region of higher
concentration to a region of lower concentration. This way
of transportation of substances occurring in unicellular
organisms is called diffusion. Figure 10.1 shows the transport
of gases and nutrients within a single cell.
