Question :

f(x) = 2x³+ 4x +6 is a factor of g(x)= x +1

Solution :

x + 1 can be written as x + 1 = 0

g(x) = x + 1 = 0

Transposing 1 to the left hand side we get

x = -1

Now,

f(x) = 2x³+ 4x + 6

Putting the values of x we get

f(x) = 2(-1)³ + 4(-1) + 6

f(x) = 2•(-1) + (-4) + 6

f(x) = - 2 - 4 + 6

f(x) = - 6 + 6

f(x) = 0

Hence, it is a factor of the polynomial
