Given :

f(y) = y³ - y² - y - 1

To find :

f(y + 1)

f(y) = y³ - y² - y - 1

f(y) = y² ( y - 1) - ( y + 1)

Now,

f(y +1) = (y + 1)² ( y + 1 - 1) - ( y + 1 +1)

f(y +1) = y ( y + 1)² - ( y + 2)

f(y +1) = y ( y² + 1 + 2y) - y - 2

f(y +1) = y³ + y + 2y² - y - 2

f(y +1) = y³ + 2y² - 2

Therefore, If f(y) = y³ - y² - y - 1 then, f(y+1) = y³ + 2y² - 2

(OR)

Given,

f(x) = y³ - y² - y - 1

Since y is a constant with respect to x here,

f(x) = c = y³ - y² - y - 1

Now, f(y + 1) = c = y³ - y² - y - 1
