Refractive index is the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to sine of angle of refraction.


Refractive index depends upon the following factors :


(i) Refractive index is inversely proportional to the optical density of the medium .

(ii) Refractive index is inversely proportional to the temperature of the medium.

(iii) It is inversely proportional to the wavelength of the ray.


Note :

Optical density depends upon the material of the body.
