The prime factors that affect the distribution of population are the terrain or topography of a region, urbanisation, economic well-being, level of education and the fertility of people. Distribution of population is also driven by migration, mostly due to economic needs.
Hilly regions are sparsely populated. Urban agglomerates are thickly populated. Poverty triggers population growth. Educated people restrict their family size. Biologically, the fertility of some races is ebbing; e.g. the parsi population in mainland India is going down, just as that of the jarawas in the Andaman islands.
