To factorize :  y^{2} + 8y+ 7

Solution :

  • To factorize the given algebraic expression we split middle term such that last term is the product obtained on multiplying them and on addition or subtraction gives us middle term.
  • y^{2} + 8y+ 7  = y^{2} + 7y + y + 7

                             = y ( y + 7 ) + 1 ( y + 7) \\= ( y + 7 ) ( y + 1)

Hence , factors of  y^{2} + 8y+ 7  are ( y + 7) ( y + 1).
