To factorize :  $y^{2} + 8y+ 7$

Solution :  

• To factorize the given algebraic expression we split middle term such that last term is the product obtained on multiplying them and on addition or subtraction gives us middle term.
• $y^{2} + 8y+ 7$  = $y^{2} + 7y + y + 7$

                             $= y ( y + 7 ) + 1 ( y + 7) \\= ( y + 7 ) ( y + 1)$

Hence , factors of  $y^{2} + 8y+ 7$  are $( y + 7) ( y + 1)$.
