Factorise:

1. x^2 + z^2 - 2xz

3. 64a^2 + 49b^2 + 112ab

SOLUTIOn

  • x² + z² - 2xz

Apply identity :

(a - b)² = + b² - 2ab

→ (x)² + (z)² - 2*x*z

→ (x + z)²

→ (x + z)(x + z)

_____________________

  • 64a² + 49b² + 112ab

Apply identity :

(a + b)² = + + 2ab

→ (8a)² + (7b)² + 2*8a*7b

→ (8a + 7b)²

→ (8a + 7b)(8a+ 7b)

SOMe IDENTITIEs

  • (a - b)³ = a³ - b³ - 3ab(a - b)
  • (a + b)³ = a³ + b³ + 3ab(a + b)
  • a² - b² = (a + b)(a - b)
