Question:

10a² + 31a +24

Answer:

Given:

  • polynomial 10a² + 31a +24

To factorise it

Solving Question:

middle splitting term - In this method we split the middle term of the polynomial (ie, coefficient of 'x' ) so as to factorise it .

Here ,

a + b = 31

a * b = 24 *10 = 240

Solution:

From these equations

a + b = 31

a * b = 24 *10 = 240

we get a = 15 and b = 16

therefore, 10a² + 31a + 24

10a² + 15a + 16a +24

or, 5a(2a +3) + 8(2a + 3)

or, (2a +3 ) (5a +8 ) = 0

or, 2a +3 = 0

or, 2a = -3

or, a = -3/2

and

5a +8 =0

or, 5a = -8

or, a = -8/5

∴ The value of 'a' = -8/5 and  -3/2
