factors of 42 are ±1, ±2, ±3 and ±7

substitute 2 in the equation we get f(2) = 0

divide the equation by (y-2) we get 2y^2 - y - 21

(y - 2)(2y^2 - y - 21)

(y - 2)[2y^2 + 6y - 7y - 21]

(y - 2)[2y(y+3)-7(y+3)]

(y-2)(y+3)(2y-7)
