Question:-

Factorise 3x² - x - 4

Solution:-

a = 3 ; b = -1 ; c = -4

➣ \frac{ - b  \:  ±  \:  \sqrt{ {b}^{2} - 4ac } }{2a}

➣ \frac{ - ( - 1) +  \sqrt{ { - 1}^{2}  - 4(3)( - 4)} }{2(3)}

➣ \frac{1 \:  ±  \sqrt{1 + 48} }{6}

➣ \frac{1 \:  ±  \:  \sqrt{49} }{6}

➣ \frac{1 \:  ±  \: 7}{6}

➣  \frac{8}{6}

➣  \frac{4}{3}

And

➣ (1 - 7)/6

➣ 6/6

➣ 1

The roots of the equation are 4/3 and 1.
